Save Money, Go Green with Energy Smart Home
Word is spreading quickly in neighborhoods throughout Kansas City, Kansas about the many benefits of the Energy Smart Home program, a green initiative sponsored by Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas (UG) and the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).
“I’ve noticed up to 30% in energy savings over the winter months,” says Jacqueline Randle, a Kansas City, Kansas homeowner. “I can’t wait to see my savings this summer.”
Randle invested $100 in an energy audit (a $600 value). Results of the energy audit were presented by a certified auditor and included specific recommendations for enhancing energy efficiency. Randle didn’t have to pay out of pocket or get a bank loan for the improvements she chose to make. As a BPU customer in good standing, Randle was eligible to borrow money interest free for qualifying upgrades. Installment payments are added to her monthly BPU bills and she has 15 years to pay back the loan.
Randle, like other program participants, noticed savings on utilities almost immediately. Energy Smart Home makes it possible to consume less energy and increase home values without increasing monthly budgets. Ideally, the savings in monthly utility costs cover the installment payment that appears on each BPU bill.
